activism lingo howto
To say “climate change is a problem” seams like stating the obvious to me. But surveys tell that many people do not perceive “global warming” as a threat. In his article “People left behind when we talk about global warming and climate change” the communication consultant Jeremey Porter explains how to talk about climate change in a way that makes people get that it is relevant. He also compiled a kind of cheat sheet about “How to talk about the climate“. His concrete suggestions might be very specific to the US. But it is also a general reminder: When you want to raise awareness for an issues that are relevant, but not easy to understand, use a language hits the nerve of people, people who in their personal experience of daily-live have other problems than climate change, crisis of the financial and the monetary system, agreements and policies on trade and services, etc.. But most pressing global challenges are kind of abstract. Let’s take them on also as language challenges.
